How can one be eligible to participate in the PolyU Innovation & Entrepreneurship Student Challenge?
If you are an upper form secondary school student or an undergraduate from a school or university invited by PolyU,you are eligible to enter the Challenge.But each invited school is allowed to nominate only ONE team to participate in the competition.
How big can a team be?
Each team is restricted to include 3 to 4 members.
Is it necessary for each business plan to entail a sub-theme?
No,the business plan can adopt one of the sub-themes or just focus on the general theme "innovation and entrepreneurship".However,you would gain an extra opportunity to win a special Theme Award on Health & Wellness,Lifestyle,or Environment & Sustainability.
Is there a range of budget that the business plan is confined to?
No,your budget can be as much as deemed necessary.However,it is crucial for you to justify the investment and demonstrate the profitability of the whole business.
What expenses will be sponsored by PolyU?
Three members from each non-local finalist team will be sponsored for their round-trip economy air tickets and accommodation during their stay in Hong Kong from 3 to 9 June 2009.Details of which will be announced at a later stage.However,participants will need to bear other costs that may incur due to the trip such as visa application,daily expenses,etc.
Will the judges receive the business plan entries in advance?
Yes,panel judges for semi-final and final competition will have a chance to evaluate your plan prior to your on-site presentation.
Are we guaranteed to enter the final competition once submitted our business plan?
After the submission of the business plan by end of March 2009,the judges will screen through all the entries and select 30 finalist teams for each division based on the same criteria and standard as the final judging.The finalist teams will be informed by end of April 2009.
Is a computer provided for the presentation or do we need to bring our own?
A computer linked to a projector screen will be ready for all finalists to make their presentations during the semi-final and final judging on 5 & 6 June 2009.However,it is crucial for each team to submit the final powerpoint file of their business plan by 15 May 2009.
