reason和cause的确都有理由、原因的意思,你的字典没错,不过字典在这种近义词的解释和辨析上很不给力.我给你一个句子,你马上就懂了：
What is the main reason causing the great depression?
（译：导致经济大萧条的主要原因是什么?）
reason很广泛,包含所有原因,还有你作出某个决定、选择时心里的想法.
cause必须一针见血,直接说明A causes B,或者用名词的话,A is the cause to B.
在这道题目中,我们可以把题目的两个短句合并一下：
Give your reasons/causes for the one that you would pick up.
很明显,你是在交代自己选择的原因和心里的想法,这些原因和想法是reasons,这些reasons从而cause you to pick up...,或者用名词的话,这些reasons就是你pick up的causes.
再次强调：reasons是心里的、隐含的原因,causes直接交代最根本最直接的因果关系.

我必须说,我不同意这个答案.我觉得considered也完全正确.英语当中有consider sth. as的固定搭配,而且非常常用.很抱歉我不知道为什么你那边的正确答案非选择regarded不可.如果有机会,你可以去请教一下英语老师.
【第四问】
英语中表示“过去那个时候”的固定用语是back then,不是just then.举例：
What you bought the same thing as well? I was just going to tell you not to do so back then!
（译：啥?你买了跟我一样的东西?我那个时候就想告诉你别买的来着!）
